Gulaab, a Community-Based-organisation runs a Self-help-group which works on various activities for the community in Madanpur Khadar (Urban Slum Area), New Delhi, with a population of over 1 lakh. The group which consists of 14 women, runs various awareness campaigns on government entitlement, education, and health. The group was formed in 2014 to address their socio-economic marginalisation within their families and in the community of Madanpur Khadar. It also works on women-related issues like the inequitable power distribution within their family, the economic activities of the urban poor engaged in informal activities, in which women are the lowest-paid wagers. Owing to the COVID-19 lockdown and the subsequent halt on the economic activities, the group decided to stitch re-usable masks for the community both as a means of sustenance and also, provide 30,000 people residing in the slum with a tool to fight the virus.
