About the Organization

Functional Vocational Training and Research Society (FVTRS), headquartered in Bangalore, has been established for the marginalized and vulnerable youth of India since its establishment in 1993. As a non-profit organization, FVTRS is dedicated to promoting vocational skill training. The organization envisions a just and humane society, with a special emphasis on enhancing the lives of young women and men. It is a   ISO-certified organization  and the  organization possess valid FCRA certificate, 12A , 80G and other necessary legal compliances.  The turnover of the organization is about 7 crore in a year. It is a skill promotion agency working for the unorganized sector. It mainly focuses on early school leavers and illiterate youth in the country to make them employable by building skills through vocational training.   FVTRS is currently operating in 12 states of the country and reaching out to average of 6000 youth in a year for skill based livelihood engagement.   The livelihood promotion for the marginalized  communities are  being supported by  CSR like BOSCH, TATA power, Quest Alliance etc.

Mission and Structure: FVTRS operates with a clear mission that is to empower non-school goers and early school leavers from marginalized communities by providing opportunities to improve their lives through vocational, technical, and livelihood skills. The organization is Governed by a 16-member General Body and a 7-member Governing Board, FVTRS ensures representation and leadership from its stakeholders.

Approaches and Strategies: FVTRS employs a people-led skill development approach, ensuring community participation in planning, implementation, and placement of trained youth. The linkage model of training, collaborating with reputed organizations such as Hotel Taj, Larsen and Tubro, Mahindra and Mahindra, and others, enables youth to receive training in diverse service sectors. With skill training conducted in 12 states through 143 centres, Since 1993 ,FVTRS has trained over 165,000 youth with an impressive 83% employment rate.

Innovative Initiatives: FVTRS's Life Skill Club, an initiative catering to the most excluded persons in society, integrates technical and life skills. Customized modules are designed, and more than 230 master trainers have been trained to offer sessions in nine languages. The Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) Centre focuses on training master trainers to facilitate EDP programs, contributing to the development of successful entrepreneurs.

Skill Net and Open Schooling: Skill Net, an association of skilled workers promoted by FVTRS, ensures the retention and development of trained youth at the micro level. This effort has formed 1348 skill net groups in 12 operational states which has total skilled workers of 11152.Open Schooling is a parallel focus, encouraging early school leavers to complete matriculation for a better future.

Research and Development: FVTRS actively engages in research and development to innovate in skill development. Studies on "Skilling and Employability" of tribals and "women and skill training" have been completed.   We also did a national research in 20 cities of the country to know about the skilling and emplyment opportunity among the marginalized youth.

Mission: To empower the non-school goers and early school leavers, from  the marginalised and vulnerable communities, who are with limited or no access to formal channels of learning, an opportunity to improve to quality of their lives and to make them become self-reliant, by the provision of appropriate services and programmes, designed to enhance their vocational, technical and livelihood skills.
