Gurusai’s Journey of Hope

Imagine being a child in a world that doesn’t quite understand you. Simple things—holding a spoon, taking a step, saying a word—feel impossible. You reach out, not just for help, but for someone to see you, to believe in you. Now, imagine growing up in a home filled with love but lacking the resources to provide the care you desperately need. A mother watches helplessly as her child struggles, a father carries the weight of an uncertain future.

This is the story of Gurusai:

At just eight years old, Gurusai, a boy with an intellectual disability, faced challenges far beyond his years. Born to uneducated parents working as daily wage labourers, he was placed in a standard learning environment that didn’t accommodate his needs. Without the right support, school became a daily battle—one that left him withdrawn, frustrated, and isolated. His parents, unaware of his condition, couldn’t understand why he was struggling, and Gurusai remained trapped in a world that didn’t make sense to him.

But everything changed the day INDIAdonates’ on-ground partner, Subhiksha, found him during a community survey. They immediately recognized his struggles and arranged assessments at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID). Through counselling and education, his family began to understand his needs. What started with fear and uncertainty slowly turned into trust and hope.

The journey wasn’t easy. At first, he hesitated. But little by little, things changed. With the right support, Gurusai began responding. He found joy in learning, started expressing himself, and discovered a newfound sense of independence.

Today, Gurusai is no longer the shy, withdrawn boy he once was. He is confident, energetic, and eager to make friends. His story is proof of what awareness, support, and the right care can do. You can be a part of such transformation. Your support will ensure 30 more children find their path from struggle to strength.

For children with special needs, life is already an uphill battle, but when poverty and stigma are added to their burden, the struggle becomes manifold. Without help, they remain trapped in a cycle of dependence and isolation, their potential lost to circumstances beyond their control.

INDIAdonates’ partner Subhiksha’s current mission is to provide intensive therapy sessions for intellectually disabled children from extremely poor backgrounds. Many of these children come from families where education is a distant dream, and therapy is an unaffordable luxury. Subhiksha has already identified thirty children who require urgent intervention and we need your support to make this a reality.

Here’s how your contribution will support 30 other children like Gurusai

  • Specialized therapists (occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech facilitators, and special educators)
  • Transportation to bring these children to school and therapy sessions
  • Nutritious meals to ensure their physical and mental well-being

  • Total Nutrition cost of the campaign is 3,25,000 and 40% only  that is 130,000 is requested through this campaign while the remaining 60% will be secured from other sources.

You can make this happen for 30 Children. Make a contribution today! Because every child deserves a chance at life.
