Maya Rani, a determined young woman who defied all odds to pursue her dream of further education. The second eldest of six daughters, Maya hails from a humble farming family. Her father’s small plot of land could barely sustain the family, let alone fund an education. But Maya was different- she had an unyielding passion for learning. She was the only daughter who completed her senior secondary education, a feat that seemed impossible given her circumstances. Maya’s father, moved by her determination, wanted to see her succeed. Yet, the harsh reality of their financial struggles made it impossible to even think about further education. That’s when hope arrived in the form of our on-ground partner, who saw the potential in Maya and decided to support her dream of becoming a healthcare worker. They helped her enroll in an ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery) course in Chahno, Ranchi, covering all the expenses with a simple promise- Maya would pay it forward when she began to earn, so others like her could also get a chance to change their lives. Maya excelled in her course, emerging as one of the top students. Today, she works in a hospital, and her story has inspired many other girls in her village to pursue their education. They, too, wish to step out of the shadows of poverty, but lack the support Maya received. With your support, we can change that.
INDIAdonates in partnership with Patna Jesuit Society aims to extend this opportunity to five deserving girls from the marginalized Musahar and Boghta communities in Bihar- Barachatti, Mohanpur, and Sheghatti blocks of Gaya District- who are ready to take the next step towards economic independence. These girls, aged 17-19, have completed their senior secondary education but lack the financial support to pursue professional courses.
Education is a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty, but for many girls like Maya, it remains out of reach.
