Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (in Bangla Durbar means unstoppable or indomitable) is a pioneering collective of sex workers - male, female and transgender based in West Bengal, India. Founded in 1995, we are dedicated to addressing the social, cultural and structural barriers that affect the lives and work of sex workers.
We strive for the recognition of sex work as legitimate work and sex workers as equal members of society. Our efforts are focused on advocating for legal and policy reforms to protect human rights, dismantle discriminatory laws and ensure full enfranchisement for sex workers. Through our activism, we aim to transform societal attitudes and secure justice and dignity for all sex workers.
We envision a world where all marginalized communities live in a socio-political environment that upholds respect, rights, and dignity for every individual. We aspire to create a new social order free from discrimination based on class, caste, race, gender and occupation.
DMSC’s mission is to enhance social and political change to establish the rights, dignity and social status of sex workers and marginalized communities worldwide, including LGBTQ+ individuals. Additionally, DMSC seeks to build alliances to address the underlying causes of marginalization.
