INDIAdonates along with its partner in Pune, Maharashtra, Y4D Foundation aims to provide vulnerable young women from tribal communities of Maharashtra a sustainable source of livelihood. The partner organization has created linkages with over 60 companies whose production units are in Chakan Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Promoted by The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). According to the requirement for factory workers presented by these companies, the partner organization will be mobilizing and training 50 women between the age group of 18 to 35 from tribal hamlets of Junnar Taluka in Mahahrasthra as Manual Insertion Operator. After the completion of the 60 days training and certification from National Skill Development Corporation, the women will be recruited by the companies to work in their factories.
The beneficiaries under this project belong to marginalized landless tribal families. Their only source of income is seasonal work as agricultural labourer with a meagre annual income of Rs. 20000 to 25000. Extreme poverty often leads the men of the family to working as migrant labourers in Mumbai or Pune in Construction and other unorganized sectors, a source of income that has now depleted in the context of the Pandemic. For the young women in the families, poverty leads to early marriage as well as seasonal migration with their husbands and continuation of the cycle of poverty.
This project on one hand has identified 50 such vulnerable women from the most underprivileged families and on the other hand, they have created linkages with companies like ITC, LG, Aptiv, Haier, Tata Yazaki Automotive etc. that require skilled workers in their factories operating in Chakan and wish to hire the local youth. The beneficiaries will be divided into two batches of 25. Each batch will attend 6 to 8 hours of training, 5 days a week for 2 months at the residential training facility set up by the partner organization. After the completion of training and certification all of the women will be hired in the companies mentioned above as Manual Insertion Operator earning a monthly income of Rs 13,000/-
The partner has been implementing similar projects over the last 5 years. Since 2017, the partner has trained and provided employment to 800 underprivileged youth.
Securing salaried employment for the 50 women will give them decision making power and more control over their own lives and at the same time, will get their families out of extreme poverty.
With a monthly contribution of Rs.1,815/- for 6 months you can ensure a lifetime of income and financial security for a marginalized woman and her family.
