Making Dreams Come True and Nurturing Children's Future

Summary

Krishna, a 10-year-old residing in slums of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh lost his father at an early age. His mother, a domestic worker, does cleaning and other chores in different households to make a living and provide for her children. Even after all her hard work, in most months, her income does not suffice to fulfill the most basic needs of her children. Even if she somehow managed to feed them, they could not hope for an education, any quality of life or a better future. Unfortunately, Krishna got involved in rag picking activities making to supplement his mother’s income. Eventually, with the influence of the adults who were employing him he had the misguided notion of running away from his home to reduce the burden on his mother and save her from extra hard work.  

Krishna was found alone on the streets by safe society on-ground partner of INDIAdonates. Safe Society runs community learning centers in slums of Gorakhpur. Krishna was reunited with his mother and siblings, he started attending classes regularly, got access to fresh clothes and one time’s nutritious meals. He is now back in regular school and working hard towards transforming his life.  

Unlike Krishna, many children in similar situation are compelled to face the worst fate. To ensure overall development of children living in urban poor communities and their reintegration into mainstream education system, INDIAdonates with its on-ground partner Safe society aims to run community learning centers for 300 children in Gorakhpur.

Our objective is to reduce and prevent child labour and child abuse, restore their rights, ensure their overall development and re-integrate them into mainstream school once they have attended preparatory classes.
