Summary

According to reports on 20-April, Jharkhand recorded more than 8000 new cases. As the surge continues, there is an acute shortage of in- patient beds capable of providing oxygen support. Taking into consideration the shortage of facilities, the District administration has requested Prem Jyoti Community Hospital (PJCH), located at Chandragodda village, Barhait block of Sahibganj, to set up a specialty COVID ward. It is a charitable hospital and is partnered with Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA).

The designated COVID hospitals in Pakur and Sahibganj district are already overcrowded and struggling to admit patients.

Prem Jyoti Community Hospital is the only hospital in that locality with High dependency Unit, Nursery, 24hrs laboratory, Pharmacy and X-ray facilities. Currently PJCH has 30 beds, 4 doctors, 28 nurses and a total of 69 staff to support non-COVID patients. However, it lacks COVID treatment facilities.

To respond to this overwhelming situation PJCH intends to start a COVID Ward, within a week, with 15 oxygenated beds to cater to mild and moderate cases of corona. INDIAdonates is closely monitoring the situation on the ground, to understand the immediate need of the hospital as well as the patients, who are from resource-poor communities.

The hospital is in dire need of the following.
