Fall out of 2nd COVID wave- Feed the hungry and save lives

Summary

As India struggles with a massive and severe second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the loss of lives is mounting up. Till now, according to the official numbers, the nation has lost more than 3 lakh lives to the virus. It has also created invisible collateral damages across the socio-economic spectrum. Intermittent lockdown, loss of work, reverse migration, and fear of the virus have fused together to create severe ‘Hunger and Starvation issues’. For the urban poor, the plight of the unorganised sector, which is almost 90% of our labour force, indicates a grim future of insecurity, joblessness. Across the country, families are being pushed to extreme poverty. This coupled with the loss of sole breadwinners to the pandemic has brought many families to the brink of extreme poverty and starvation. 

To serve these communities, INDIAdonates is working with EFI to provide emergency relief among the severely hit families. EFI plans to provide relief kits (essential food and hygiene items like rice, flour, pulses,  cooking oil, spices, sugar, salt amounting to INR 2500) to 1000 families (5000 beneficiaries approximately) from 45 towns and villages in 16 states, who are at an immediate risk of going hungry for the next one month to help them weather this difficult time. Many of these families have already been identified and many are still being added to our list, as the repercussions of the virus ravages on.
