Summary

Began Kumar, a 12-year-old boy living in Jahanabad district of Bihar is a school dropout and working as a child laborer in construction factory. Both of his parents are daily wage laborers and due to the extreme poor economic conditions and irregular source of income, they are unable to educate their four children out of which Began is the youngest. Began along with his siblings is presently helping his parents in menial jobs.

Education has the power to uplift individuals from poverty and marginalization. In Jehanabad district of Bihar, many children from marginalized and resource poor communities are unable to attend school regularly. Even though education itself is free of cost in government schools, many families who are living a hand-to-mouth existence often consider cost for school supplies, books, notebook, uniform, transport to school etc. as extra, non-essential cost. This, coupled with lack of awareness on child rights about children’s education, poor parents often prefer for their children to work and supplement the income of the family, or at least to look after their younger siblings, instead of going to school.

INDIAdonates, along with its on ground partner Gram Swarajya Samiti Ghoshi (GSSG) has launched a campaign to bring 350 out-of-school and irregular-at-school children (between 6 to 12) in Jehanabad district back to school.

With your support, we would:

  • re-enroll these children back in formal education system
  • support them by providing educational material, books, notebooks, other stationery, school bags etc on a quarterly basis for a year
  • mentor and counsel their parents regularly on child rights and importance of education.
  • provide supplementary education support to the children to maintain age-appropriate learning

We request you to come forward to support these children. Your minimum donation of Rs. 2360 can save the future of Began Kumar and many vulnerable children like him. Please Donate!
