Kottayam Social Service Society

Kottayam Social Service Society (KSSS) is a registered non-profit organization established in 1964 to organize social service activities in its operational areas without discrimination on basis of caste and creed. Its main target group is poeple below poverty line with special priority to the scheduled castes and tribes. The society's goal is to empower the people for development aiming at social transformation for a just society. Besides its office at Thellakom in Kottayam with twenty two professionally trained staff, the society also functions through its affiliated units. KSSS has organized several self help groups in 80 villages. Ever since its founding in 1964, KSSS has been in the forefront of social transformation of the less priviledged. It facilitates many development initiatives for the uplift of the marginalized and victimized people for thier sustainable development. The activities of KSSS are spread mainly in the five districts of Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta covering 80 rural villages (57 Panchayats) in Kerala. The main focus of the organization is the empowerment and improvement in the quality of the poor and other vulnerable sections in society like Persons with Disabilities, Rural children, Women, Widows, Elderly Persons and Farmers. KSSS has completed 57 years of dedicated services in the development sector and has rich experience in facilitating capacity building, community health, promotion of grassroots level organizations, community based rehabiltiation programs, disaster management and other community level organizations for social change and transformation. More than 57000 families are directly linked with the organization through the network of community based organizations. KSSS has the credit of contributing several 'Models ' to the society.

KSSS Pioneer in :

• Community Based Rehabilitation Program for Persons with Disabilities in Kerala and since 2012 is the Nodal Agency in Kerala for Rehabilitation Programs for the Persons with Deafblindness. The Training and Rehabilitation programs for the persons with disabilities and parents are conducted in the Good Samaritan Resource Centre, Cherpunkal. Specialized trainings like Teaching Activities of Daily living through  Calender system, Tactile teachings, Pre braille, Braille and Sensory trainings are provided. KSSS also runs Day Care Centres & Vocational Training Centre called Agape Bhavan and has self help groups for the Persons with Disabilities. 
• Women Empowerment: KSSS has contributed numerous model units of Women in society. The empowerment attained by women participating in KSSS' self help group activities is proved effectively by the fact that 56 of its women members won in the panchayat elections (2010) thus contributing to the democracy of the nation. In the recent elections, 54 of KSSS' SHG members have won and secured seats in the Local Self Government bodies.
